Hyundai reveals its Cockpit of the Future
Hyundai reveals a look at where the cockpit of their cars is going, with what looks like a production-ready setup fitted to an i30.
If you haven’t driven a car built in the last five years, you might be in for a bit of a shock if you step in to something more current. Where have all the buttons gone and what are all these screens, you may cry.Well, you might as well get used to it as car makers drive down the (now) cost effective route of stuffing just about everything on touchscreens, and although you may find it a bit irritating not to have easy direct action buttons, it’s all heading that way.
Now, Hyundai is now giving us the heads-up (no pun intended) on where their digital cockpits are heading, fitting lots of new technology to an i30 so we can have a look (above).
Probably the biggest change is touchscreens on the steering wheel – yes, even those physical buttons are heading for the bin – which can be configured to control whatever functions you want and, promise Hyundai, will give strong haptic feedback so they feel button-like.
The integuments go next-gen digital too with a pair of displays – one stacked above the other – creating a 3D display in the process, with customisation to suit the driver available, and what’s on the instrument screen popping up on the steering wheel if you choose.
Expect something very similar to start turning up on Hyundai’s production cars quite soon.
