Hyundai shows Smartphone Performance Control for EVs
Hyundai Motor Group (which includes Kia) has developed Smartphone Performance Control for their electric cars, allowing performance changes at a stroke.
Will the advent of electric cars put an end to car tuning? It seems not and, if Hyundai have their way it will be as easy as opening an App on your Smartphone and having a play.Hyundai Group has developed what they’re calling ‘smartphone-electric vehicle pairing based performance adjustment technology‘ (which we hope won’t be the name of the App) which will allow drivers of electric cars to customise their cars functions with a few stabs of a fat finger.
Features divers can adjust include the maximum torque of the motor, ignition, acceleration and deceleration, regenerative braking, maximum speed, responsiveness and energy use for stuff like Climate. Which should ensure you muck up your EV completely.
Hyundai say that apart from setting up your car how you want it, it will mean you can use the same settings you’ve customised on your car if you need a hire car, as well as pre-defined settings for specific journeys.
Hyundai are using Blockchain tech to ensure security of the information when drivers are uploading or downloading data, and that it is all possible from a manufacturer (rather than an independent) because whatever changes you make won’t change the EV’s emissions (which is a bit arguable, but legally correct).
JeongSoo Eo, a Research bod from Hyundai, said:
As Hyundai Motor Group is planning to deploy 44 eco-friendly models by year 2025, including 23 electric vehicles, we see the potential of technologies and services inherent in non-combustion vehicles.
By developing paradigm-shifting mobility technology like this one, we will continue to strive to improve user experience for electric vehicles customized to individual preferences.
Hyundai say their catchily-named ‘smartphone-electric vehicle pairing based performance adjustment technology’ will be available on future EVs.
