Jaguar’s Chief Designer has confirmed to De Telegraaf in Holland that there will be an XFR Estate. And we think it will be the Jaguar XFR Sports Brake.
It’s quite gratifying, after several years of championing the Jaguar XF Estate, for Jaguar to finally decide to add the load-carrying XF to the range.
Just last week we had Andrew Whyman, XF Vehicle Engineering Manager for Jaguar, letting it slip that the XF Estate was indeed in the mix and was definitely on its way. What we didn’t know – because Andrew didn’t say – was if the Estate would proliferate across the range.
Would we get everything from a 2.2 litre diesel XF Estate right the way on up to a red hot XFR Estate (or perhaps – pretty please – an XFR-S Estate)? It now seems we will.
Talking to Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Jaguar’s design chief Ian Callum has confirmed that it won’t just be rep-mobile estates in the XF range, but that there will indeed be an XFR Estate. Great news.
What is also interesting is the name De Telegraaf are attaching to the XF Estate – they’re calling it the XF Sports Break. Now whether that’s got lost in translation (we don’t have a word of Dutch in the office, probably because every Dutchman we know speaks better English than we do), or whether Jaguar intend to deliver an alternative to ‘Avant’ or ‘Touring’ we just don’t know.
Maybe it’s a play on Shooting Brake? Maybe it should be XF Sports Brake, not Sports Break? Actually, we rather like Sports Brake. The Jaguar XF Sport Brake. It has a ring to it. We’ll go with that.
So, where do I now sign for the Jaguar XFR Sports Brake?

I have an RS6 Avant. If jaguar make an XFR-S Sports Brake with 4WD I’d swap in a heartbeat.

Now that is very good news indeed.
