Jeep Renegade drives Jeep’s UK SALES to 19-year high
Jeep has achieved its best market share in the UK in a single month since 1997 in April, recording a 115 per cent increase year on year.
Back in October last year, we reported that Jeep had managed to double its UK sales as its UK offerings expand, and the momentum continues.
April 2016 sales for Jeep saw it grabbing its biggest market share since 1997 in the UK, with 1,303 new cars registered compared to just 605 in the same month of 2015.
Of course, there’s one big reason Jeep are doing so much better, and that’s the Jeep Renegade.
It’s just over a year since the Renegade went on sale in the UK, and for the first time Jeep has a credible small SUV to tempt UK buyers looking for something a bit different.
Yes, the Renegade is essentially the Fiat 500X with a hefty dose of ‘Merican factored in, but it makes a big change from the endless small SUVs and Crossover on offer everywhere else, and it’s car that has proper off-road chops too, especially in range-topping guise.
In fact, it looks like the Renegade is out-selling its Italian cousin in the UK, and it’s certainly taking the lion’s share of Jeep’s UK sales.
The Renegade was responsible for 1,058 of the brand’s April sales of 1,303, with the Cherokee taking 122, the Grand Cherokee 104 and the Wrangler just 19.
In the bigger scheme of things, the numbers are quite small, and Jeep’s total for April represents a market share of just 0.69 per cent, but it is an indication that Jeep are finally getting their UK offerings right, or at least the Renegade is right.
Perhaps we’ll see some of the sales gloss from the Renegade filtering up to the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, as UK car buyers see more Jeeps running round the roads?
