Kia GT and Provo look to be heading in to production

March 12, 2013 By Cars UK

The recent Kia Provo Concept and the impressive Kia GT look like they’re heading in to production as Kia move upmarket.

The Kia Provo – Kia’s take on a Juke / MINI Countryman urban warrior – was well received at the Geneva Motor Show (well, apart from by MPs in Northern Ireland) and looks a very good way for Kia to go as it continues to seek a more upmarket identity.

Equally, the stunning Kia GT concept we saw at 2 years ago at Frankfurt  – a swoopy coupe Kia take on the Mercedes CLS – was equally convincing, although we’d begun to think Kia had gone cold on the idea of putting the Kia GT in to production.

But Auto Express are reporting that both the Provo (with a change of name ) and the GT are close to being signed off for production after a conversation with Benny Oeyen, Kia’s marketing boss in Europe.

Oeyen said that the Kia GT – which came with a turbo 3.3 litre V6 and rear wheel drive in concept form – is close to being signed off for production and that the Provo is the right car to enter the Kia lineup as a B-Segment Coupe.

If the Provo and GT are heading for production we could see them – particularly the Kia GT – appearing at Frankfurt in September.

Let’s hope Kia keep intact the bold design of both the GT and Provo for production, and not water-down either the design or powertrains.

It could be. It certainly signals Kia’s intention to move in to the ‘Premium’ market.

I actually think the Provo is a great looking little car. I’d have one.

NO! Anything but the Provo! They win one with the GT, but score an own goal with the Provo.
