Land Rover Discovery - off on an 8,000 mile road trip to Beijing
The Land Rover Discovery has now hit the impressive 1,000,000 production mark, with the millionth Discover rolling off the production line at Solihull today. And Land Rover are pushing out the boat to celebrate with a 50-day, 8,000 mile trip to Beijing and aiming to raise £1 million for the Red Cross and Red Crescent in the process.
Land Rover has had a bit of a party at Solihull today with 5,000 staff being joined by British explorers Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Bear Grylls, Ray Mears, Monty Halls and Ben Saunders to celebrate the millionth Disco and launch the road trip to Beijing.
The 50-day journey by Discovery is timed to end at the Beijing Motor Show on 23rd April and will travel from Solihull through more than a dozen countries in Europe and Central Asia in the process. The journey follows in the tracks of the ‘First Overland Expedition’ of 1955 (see the video below – it’s worth the watch).
Phil Popham, Land Rover’s Group Sales Operations Director, said:
Discovery is an extraordinary vehicle and it deserves to be unleashed on an extraordinary journey. There is no better vehicle to tackle all weather, all terrain than the Discovery 4. This gruelling expedition will be visiting 13 countries and covering 8,000 miles, and it’s a fitting initiative to celebrate the one millionth vehicle.
