Land Rover Discovery Sport is the most wanted used car

The new Land Rover Discovery Sport is the most wanted used car in the UK according to Glass’s, despite used examples having the old 2.2 diesel engine.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport arrived at the Paris Motor Show in 2014 as a replacement for the Freelander, and it had a lot going for it.On the looks front, the Discovery Sport is much more appealing than the old Freelander, and despite a footprint no bigger than others in its sector it also managed to squeeze in seven seats as standard (even if the back row is strictly for children).
And even though the Disco Sport has underpinnings derived from the Evoque – itself derived from the Freelander – the Sport looks to be properly able and appealing with proper off-road abilities, real kerb appeal and good on-road manners.
The drawback to the Discovery Sport is that it came with the Freelander’s old 2.2 litre diesel, never the best engine Land Rover offered and well past its sell-by date. But that hasn’t stopped buyers jumping in to the Discovery Sport, in the process creating a demand for second-hand cars that’s second to none at the moment, according to Glass’s.
Their ‘Hot Five’ for July names the Discovery Sport as the most wanted used car (followed by the Dacia Sandero, Chevrolet Captiva, Chevrolet Orlando and Dacia Duster) which is keeping prices strong as buyers rush to snap up whatever’s available second-hand.
We certainly understand the appeal, but aren’t those buying in to high-price second-hand Discovery Sports going to come a bit of a cropper on price in a year’s time when the newer Ingenium-engined Discovery Sport is out on dealers used car lots?
Still, sometimes you have an itch you just have to scratch – despite the downside.
