McLaren 650S GT3 revealed at Goodwood

The McLaren 650S GT3 – McLaren’s GT3 replacement for the 12C GT3 – has been revealed at Goodwood with big improvements over the 12C.

The arrival of the McLaren 650S meant a GT3 version wouldn’t be far behind as McLaren transferred all that’s better about the 650S to the track version, and now the McLaren 650S GT3 has made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Sitting on McLaren’s stand at Goodwood alongside the P1, the 650S GT3 is wider than the 12C version, has a carbon fibre body kit, big air intakes and a huge rear wing and diffuser made from carbon fibre too.

McLaren has also upgraded the suspension on the 650S and the cabin offers more head and leg room as well as promising a more comfortable drive.

McLaren say that the 650S GT3 looks much more purposeful, has better cooling, is easier to service, easier to dive, cheaper to run and is, in every way, better than the 12C it replaces.

McLaren are also offering an upgrade package for existing 12C GT3 owners which will allow them to upgrade their cars to 650S levels and get further competitive time from their car.

The McLaren 650S GT3 is to GT racing what the 650S is to McLaren Automotive, with the new car improving on all areas of a strong existing product, and making it more engaging at the same time. It shares the heart and soul of its road-going sibling with the same 3.8-litre twin turbo engine and the carbon fibre chassis, but turns things up to 11 in terms of aerodynamics.

It is truly fit for purpose, but is now accessible to an even wider breadth of abilities and, as with the road car, it provides unprecedented levels of comfort, safety and driver engagement.

The McLaren 650S GT3 will cost £333,000 (+vat) with customer car production starting in the Autumn.
