Buyers of the new McLaren Speedtail Hyper GT are invited to choose the look of their cars, and McLaren wants to guide them with Design Themes.
A big bank balance is no guarantee of taste (some may say the two may be inversely proportional), so letting car owners completely loose when choosing car colours and trims – never mind endless other options – can lead to some pretty strange looking cars when costs is no constraint.
McLaren is trying to get round the conundrum of maximising spend on the new McLaren Speedtail Hyper GT whilst maintaining decorum, so they’ve come up with a set of three ‘Themes’ for owners to work round in the hope what transpires may not be too offensive to look at.
First up is the URBANE Collection of three themes said to offer a discerning and refined feel with calm exterior hues and subtle and cool interior tones. All very grown up.
Up second is the VISIONARY Collection which, say McLaren, offers a purposeful moody look with striking shades, opulence and surprising elements.
The third is the DYNAMIC Collection which is exciting and modern, makes bold statements and has sporty, futuristic and sumptuous themes.
Jo Lewis, McLaren’s Head of Colour and Material Design, said:
The McLaren Speedtail is our most ambitious project to date and all were sold months before the car was even unveiled. This level of faith in McLaren products demands that we strive to even greater heights of detail and excellence.
As a result of meticulous study of colours, forms and textures by our design team, finding inspiration in areas that are uncharted in automotive design, we believe that we will achieve this with the look and feel of each individual Speedtail.
Whilst only 106 customer cars will be built, it is important that each one is unique, so this tailored collection is quite simply, like no other – as is the McLaren Speedtail itself.
If Jo’s done the job right, each of the 106 Speedtails should come out looking appealing. If not…
