Mercedes has confirmed that they are to put in to production the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake Concept we saw at this year’s Beijing Motor Show in 2012
Mercedes Estate cars do tend to err towards function rather than style. That said, we have a Mercedes E350 Estate in this week for review and it’s a handsome car with an abundance of toys. Mind you, £18k of extras from the options list should make any E-Class load-lugger a very nice place to be. And it does.
And the E-Class Estate does look far less boxy than it once did. Paradoxically, having expended much effort to make the E-Class Estate look as stylish as possible, Mercedes are going to undo all that good work by putting in to production the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake.
The Mercedes CLS is probably our favourite Mercedes saloon. Particularly when in thug-mode courtesy of a nice big V8and the input of AMG. But in any model guise it’s stylish and individual and the progenitor of every four-door swoopy-coupe currently littering the high-end car market.
And now we’re going to get the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake in 2012, which we saw as a concept at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year. It’s an Estate car that owes more to style than practicality and has huge promise. Particularly if Mercedes manage to produce a CLS63 Shooting Brake with that nice new 5.5 litre twin turbo.
It should also have the M5 Touring and RS6 Avant looking over their shoulder with some trepidation.
