Mercedes Electric ‘EQ’ Concept teased for Paris
A new video from Mercedes teases a Mercedes Electric Car Concept – part of the Mercedes ‘EQ’ plan – for a debut at the Paris Motor Show.
Suddenly, and despite no disruptive technology breakthroughs, electric cars are rapidly becoming flavour of the moment, with every car maker fighting to get on the bandwagon. As far as ‘Premium’ electric cars go, we have Tesla to thank for bolting several tonnes of laptop batteries in the floorpan of the Model S to demonstrate that you can go very fast in a straight line with enough batteries and an electric motor (or preferably three).
The sales of the Model S no doubt spurred on Premium car makers to compete, with Porsche and the Mission E heading straight for the Model S, Audi aiming at the Model X with the yet to arrive Q6, and Mercedes aiming at – well, everything.
This video tease for a new Mercedes ‘EQ’ model Concept previews its arrival at the Paris Motor Show, with the concept – which seems to be a compact SUV – using lots of futuristic effects, LED grille and lights, cameras, slick interior, lots of touch surfaces and, just in case we don’t get this is an electric concept, a thumping great big on/off button at the end of the video.
No doubt more will be revealed by Mercedes in Paris, if not before, not only on this electric concept, but perhaps also on how big a range of BEVs they’re planning with the new EQ Range.
