It looks like Mercedes has a new Maybach Coupe up its sleeve, teasing a huge coupe on its social media for reveal at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The revival of the Maybach brand didn’t go too well for Mercedes, and despite their best efforts at usurping BMW’s Rolls Royce with a range of very glitzy transport for the nouveau riche, Mercedes finally threw in the towel with Maybach in 2012.
But having at least managed to get the Maybach name back in the public arena, if not made a success of selling cars, Mercedes decided they’d launch a new luxury sub-brand for titivated Mercedes which they’d call Mercedes-Maybach.
Mercedes-Maybach has now spawned the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class (and the Pullman version), selling more a month in China than Maybach managed in a year, and seem to have plans for a Mercedes Maybach GLS to take on the Bentley Bentayga and high-end Range Rovers.
But now it looks like Mercedes could be going after Rolls Royce once again with an enormous Maybach Coupe which doesn’t, at first glance, seem to bear any relationship to a current Mercedes model.
At 20 feet long this Maybach Coupe is huge, and Mercedes has teased it with a single photo (above) on social media ahead of a debut at Pebble Beach.
Will this just be a Maybach Coupe Concept to give Maybach some headlines at Pebble, or is this a Mercedes-Maybach Coupe heading for production to fill the hole left by the end of Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe production?
