Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV gets a range of updates

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid, gets a range overhaul with six new trim levels and extra equipment.

You have to be impressed with what Mitsubishi has achieved with the Outlander PHEV, making it the best-selling PHEV in the UK, and keeping it there, is no mean feat from a car company which doesn’t have the deep pockets and resources of the likes of Toyota or VW.

Now Mitsubishi are back for another round of updates for the Outlander PHEV as car buyers lose a bit of love for plug-in hybrids after the plug-in grant was effectively scrapped, aimed at keeping the Outlander at the top of the PHEV heap.

Before you get too excited, Mitsubishi hasn’t found a way to increase the Outlander’s EV range (it’s still officially 28 miles), but it has given it a new model range and added some new bits an pieces.

The new range is perhaps a bit too big – you can now have Verve, Design, Dynamic, Dynamic Safety, Exceed and Exceed Safety trim levels – with all models getting new seats with electronic lumbar support and a revised dashboard for new Climate controls and bigger infotainment.

The Outlander Verve starts at £35,455 and gets stuff like, DAB, heated front seats, Climate, Keyless, rear parking sensors, Cruise, electric folding mirrors and auto lights and wipers, with the next up the rung Outlander Design (from £36,455) adding 18″ alloys, Mitsubishi’s Smartphone Line Display Audio, Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and integrated reversing camera display.

The Outlander Dynamic (from £38,555) adds leather, Blind Spot and Rear Traffic alerts, and the Outlander Exceed (from 40,995) adds TomTom Sat Nav, diamond quilted leather, LED headlights and Fogs, 360-degree camera, heated steering wheel and power tailgate.

The other two trim levels – Dynamic Safety and Exceed Safety – cost from £41,055 and £43,455 respectively and add a suite of safety stuff to the aforementioned specs including Forward Collision, Adaptive Cruise, Lane Departure, Ultrasonic Misacceleration mitigation System, auto high beam and front and rear parking sensors.
