Mitsubishi TEASE new compact plug-in hybrid SUV for Tokyo
Mitsubishi tease a new plug-in hybrid compact SUV heading for a debut at the Tokyo Motor Show, with 4WD and a downsized PHEV powertrain.
There’s no denying Mitsubishi has done well with PHEVs, managing to deliver the UK’s most popular plug-in hybrid with the Outlander PHEV which accounts for 25 per cent of all PHEV sales in the UK.Perhaps surprisingly, Mitsubishi hasn’t really moved to capitalise on that lead by delivering more PHEV models, but that looks set to change with the first tease for a new Mitsubishi PHEV.
Heading for a debut at the Tokyo Motor Show next month, Mitsubishi say their new electrified compact SUV will come with a downsized (from the Outlander PHEV) plug-in hybrid powertrain, and will offer electric four-wheel drive.
We’re not entirely sure what this new Mitsubishi PHEV will look like, but the single image Mitsubishi has sent over (above) shows what looks like the back end complete with two pairs of vents sloping down to a notch-back rear end. We’re guessing it won’t have conventional looks.
Mitsubishi has revealed no details of the PHEV powertrain, save to say it’s downsized, but they do say the new compact SUV will offer “unparalleled driving pleasure” and be able to tackle rough stuff with alacrity.
Expect a tease or more to come before the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of October.
