New 2019 Renault Clio revealed
The 2019 Renault Clio has been properly revealed – following the interior’s reveal yesterday – ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new Renault Clio interior arrived yesterday as Renault decided it should throw in its interior revolution for the Clio ahead of a full reveal so we could all marvel at the big changes in interior design and quality offered in the new Clio. But also, perhaps, the interior’s big changes were to stop us initially focusing on an exterior which looks very much like the current Clio. It’s definitely a design evolution for the exterior of the new Clio.
The evolution of design comes despite a new platform, which can accommodate electrification and makes the new Clio slightly smaller, but Renault clearly didn’t want to lose the appeal of the current Clio’s design, a car which has increased its sales every year since launch thanks, in great part, according to Renault, because of how it looks.
The new Clio doesn’t mess too much with the design, but there’s a new front bumper and grille and the bonnet is sculptured for a more upmarket look.
The back doors still have window-mounted handles to fool the eye i to thinking the five-door Clio is a four-door, the flanks have creases running back from the front wheel arches, the flanks are more integrated and the back end gets some chrome and a more flush look.
Other changes include LED headlights on all model, there’s a bigger boot, new light signature at the back and air deflectors on the front wheel arches.
Also new for the Mk V Clio will be the Clio RS Line, designed to replace the GT-Line and offer a sporty look for the new Clio regardless of what sits under the bonnet.
The new Renault Clio will debut in Geneva and go on sale in the Autumn, with the usual range of diesel and petrol engines and, at some point, a hybrid version. But it’s unlikely we’ll see a new Clio EV.
