BMW Austria has managed, briefly, to put the online configurator for the new 7 Series live, two days before the new 7 Series arrives officially.
The video tease for the new BMW 7 Series recently also revealed BMW’s plans to fully reveal their new Mercedes S Class competitor on 10 June. But, as with many best laid plans, this one’s gone slightly awry – thanks to BMW Austria.
Clearly being efficient (as you would expect from the Austrians), they had the online configurator all set to go once the 7 Series was officially uncovered. Trouble is, someone pressed the ‘publish’ button too soon and the details of the new 7 Series were, briefly, online, but long enough for many eagle-eyed visitors (including Bimmer Today and others) to grab information (including the rather low-res photo of the new 7 Series above).
What we see is no big surprise – the new 7 Series is an evolution of the current car – but we do get more details and specific than BMW would have wished at this point.
The new 7 Series will arrive in the Autumn – after its Frankfurt debut – with a choice, initially, of a 257bhp 730d, 317bhp 740i and 444bhp in the 4.4 litre turbo V8 750i, alloys wheel choices from 17-20″, 13 different exterior colours including Alpine White, Black College, Glacier Silver, Cashmere Silver and Sophisto Grey, as well as options like M Sport Pack, LWB and xDrive 4WD
Austrian prices look to start at the equivalent of about £72,500 for a RWD 730d and getting on for £100k for a 750i xDrive, but we can’t see the prices being that strong in the UK – the current 7 Series starts at around £58k, with the 750i M Sport around £75k and the range-topping 760 costing £100k.
All will be revealed in two days, unless BMW take their own leak as reason to bring the official reveal forward.
