The new BMW 7 Series teased on video ahead of its official reveal
BMW is teasing the reveal of the 2016 7 Series on 10 June with a video that highlights some of its features. We’re expecting less weight and new engines.
The BMW 7 Series has always played second fiddle to the Mercedes S Class as Germany’s luxury ride of choice, but BMW is hoping to steal sales from its rival with the arrival of a new 7 Series. With a reveal scheduled for 10 June, BMW is playing tease with this video, which gives an indication of some of what we can expect from the new 7 Series when it arrives.
Those expectations include a big drop in weight, with savings of up to 170kg expected thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminium, which should make the new 7 Series – which is arguably already the most dynamic of the big German luxury cars – even more nimble, and more economical.
And economy will be helped too with new engines for the 7 Series, which we’re expecting to range from 4-cylinders to 12 cylinders with electric assistance and turbos along the way, although the big sellers – certainly in the UK – will remain the 3.0 litre diesels.
Inside we’re expecting an even more upmarket cabin with new iDrive system, touch-sensitive displays, gesture control and even augmented reality, with the exterior expected to be much more of an evolution in design rather than a big departure from the current 7 Series’ looks.
More details when the new 7 Series is officially revealed on 10 June.
