The DeLorean Motor Company – keepers of John DeLorean’s supercar dream – has revealed a new electric DeLorean (EV) it plans to launch in 2013.
John DeLorean’s efforts to revive the Northern Irish economy by building the DeLorean DMC-12 with British taxpayers money ended in failure. But now the DeLorean Motor Company plans an electric version of the DeLorean DMC-12, which it has revealed at the International DeLorean Owners Event in Houston, Texas.
Despite the demise of DeLeorean – and the financial downfall of John DeLorean amidst a coke deal to fun his ventures – all the rights to the original DMC – and a huge pile of original parts – is now owned by the De Lorean Motor Company in Texas.
So may parts are there that DeLorean will make you a brand new DeLorean DMC-12 for around $60k, but they now have plans to go back to the future (we had to get it in somewhere) with an all electric version of DeLorean’s car from the future.
DeLorean plans to build the DMCEV in partnership with EV company Epic EV and, according to Jalopnik, it seems likely any DMCEV will come with at least 200bhp and a 30KWh lithium-ion battery pack powering the electric motor.
Which sounds alright, but it will be a long way short of performing like a Tesla Roadster if that’s all the DMCEV will have on offer.
No doubt we’ll find out more as DeLorean gets closer to making their EV a reality

And it is in the city of Houston in the state of Texas! Of all the states to choose from in the US… I think it is a wonderful reality. 🙂
