The new Ford Mustang is being made available for the first time in RHD, and Ford has now started production ahead of first customer cars in November 2015.
American ‘Muscle’ cars are a niche market in the UK, but Ford’s decision to finally make the Mustang in RHD for the UK (and other RHD markets) has seen Ford garner 2,000 orders for the RHD Mustang in the UK already.Buyers are having to be patient, but the news that RHD Mustang production is now underway should give them hope, although it will be November before the first UK customers get their hands on a car, despite Ford increasing availability to make a dent in the greater than expected demand.
Interestingly, Ford has revealed that 80 per cent of Mustang buyers in the UK have opted for the Fastback, rather than the convertible, 70 per cent are having the 416bhp V8 engine (rather than the 2.3 litre EcoBoost) and that just over half (55 per cent) have decided they want three pedals rather than the auto option. All of which makes it clear this is an enthusiast’s car.
It also seems that a majority are happy to stump up extra for the Custom Pack (Sat Nav, upgraded audio, heated/cooled front seats, rear view camera and upgraded alloys) and the favourite colour (with 23 per cent) is Race Red, followed by Magnetic Silver and Shadow Black.
Despite the big (relatively speaking) order book, Ford is still taking orders for the new Mustang, with the 2.3 litre EcoBoost from £29,995 and the V8 from £33,995.
