New Hyundai i30 Premium launches

Hyundai has launched a new range-topping model for the i30 range – the Hyundai i30 Premium – with most of Hyundai’s extras as standard.

The latest Hyundai i30 is a very good car indeed, far removed from the cheap and cheerful i30s that went before, offering good looks, decent ride and handling, a comprehensive 5 year warranty and is bolted together as well as any other car in its sector. It’s also very appealing.

So, having built a car to send a shudder up the spine of other car makers, where does Hyundai go to stretch the appeal – and improve its perception as a quality product in the hearts and minds of prospective buyers?

One way is to start producing halo performance models, and we’re hoping Hyundai will bolt the turbo engine from the Veloster in to the i30 – or at least in to the 3-door Hyundai i30 ‘Coupe’ – to give a performance model that will give cars like the Focus ST a run for its money.

The other way is to produce a luxury model, and that’s the route Hyundai has gone with the new Hyundai i30 Premium, a range-topping model available as the i30 hatch or i30 Tourer (Estate) and to which Hyundai has bolted most of its options list.

Hyundai went the same route with the last generation i30, but it’s a more credible effort this time because the latest generation i30 is a much more credible car.

Starting at £19,995 for the i30 1.6 120PS Hatch and rising to £23,900 for the i30 1.6 CRDI 128PS auto Tourer, the Premium comes with all the stuff you could have had in the Convenience and Individual packs, and then some, as standard.

That means the i30 Premium comes with 17″ Alloys, chrome door handles with lights, folding power mirrors with puddle lights, leather, heated seats, electric driver’s seat and keyless, most of which was part of the  Convenience and Individual Pack stuff which would have cost an extra £1,750 before.

Now, about the Hyundai i30 Coupe Turbo…
