New Jaguar F-Pace SUV will handle like an F-Type

The new Jaguar F-Pace SUV – Jaguar’s first Crossover/SUV – will have exceptional handling and dynamics thanks to technology from the F-Type.
Should Jaguar, famed for its sporty saloons, be building an SUV (even if they insist it’s a Crossover, not an SUV)?Jaguar’s heritage says no, but the market says yes, and it’s the market that wins, so the C-X17 Concept will turn in to the production F-Pace at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, ahead of going on sale in Jaguar’s showrooms in 2016.
But in the run-up to the F-Pace’s reveal, Jaguar want to ram home the point that the F-Pace isn’t a lumbering SUV, but a high-riding sports car which will offer an engaging and rewarding drive, and that, apparently, will be achieved using technology from Jaguar’s F-Type.
All F-Pace models will come with chassis dynamics technology adapted from the F-Type, complete with an all-wheel-drive system which delivers torque on demand and an electric power steering system also developed from the F-Type’s which offers exceptional feedback.
Dynamics will also be aided by Jaguar’s lightweight aluminium architecture which, say Jaguar, will allow the F-Pace to handle with precision without harming ride comfort.
Mike Cross, Jaguar’s chassis guru, said:
We haven’t made any compromises or exceptions: the new F-PACE must be a true Jaguar and deliver the Jaguar dynamics DNA.
We’ve tested ride and handling to extremities in all environments and in all conditions, and the result is that the new F-PACE is as engaging and rewarding to drive as it is going to be enjoyable to own. As soon as you get into the vehicle you know immediately that it’s a great place to be.
Jaguar are setting the bar high with the F-Pace, but if it delivers on Jaguar’s promise it should be a winner. It could even be more successful than the XE.
