New Jaguar XFR-S burns up the Goodwood hillclimb (video)

March 23, 2013 By Cars UK

The new Jaguar XFR-S – the most powerful XF to date – has just launched and we have video of the XFR-S on the Goodwood Hillclimb.

The most powerful Jaguar saloon so far – although the new Jaguar XJR will run it close – the Jaguar XFR-S is the XFR with the heart of the XKR-S, designed to take on the latest, more powerful, iterations of the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 and arrived officially at the Los Angeles Motor Show at the end of last year.

With an even more aggressive look than the XFR, the XFR-S gets 542bhp and 502lb/ft of torque, enough to move Jaguar’s appealing super saloon to 62mph in just 4.4 seconds.

Until now all we’ve had are the XFR-S photos Jaguar delivered (together with a dynamic video too), but with this week seeing Goodwood starting the push for this year’s Festival of Speed with a press day, we have the XFR-S out playing on the hillclimb, and Shmee 150 managed to capture Jaguar’s new cat playing.

Looking suitably butch with an appealing Italian Racing Red paint job offset by complementing black trim, the XFR-S makes easy work of the Goodwood hillcimb, and manages to deposit plenty of rubber on the start line.

At £80k the XFR-S isn’t exactly cheap, but dial in some proper Jaguar soul and it’s a very appealing, and very swift, Jaag XF.

I’m not a fan of red cars, but this shade of red especially with the black highlights looks great on the XKRS

The standard XFR has a pretty good ride, much better than the German opposition, but the XKR-S is rock hard. I do hope Jaguar hasn’t wrecked the ride in the XFR-S for the sake of a bit more power.

The E63 AMG S may do 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds but it won’t in the UK because we’re not getting the four wheel drive version. Without it the time is only 0.1 quicker than the standard car.

The XFR-S is the most powerful XF and gets to 62 in 4.4 seconds. The standard E63 AMG does it in 4.2 seconds and you still have the E63 AMG S if you want more. Enough said.

There’s more to a car than its 0 to 62mph time. The only people who are interested in 0.2 second differences, are kids playing Top Trumps.

This is why McLaren wasn ‘t interested in top speed or acceleration numbers for the P1. They were more interested in how the car handled.

The Bugatti Veyron is the fastest production car in the world, but it’s not the fastest around the Top Gear track.

Trumped then! But I compared the standard E63 with the XFR-S. If you compare the XFR-S with the more powerful E63 AMG S then the difference is a lot bigger as the Merc does 0-62 in 3.6 seconds and its got 4WD so it’ll be quicker off the line and round a track.

The E63 AMG S has 585bhp. So, it’s no surprise that it will have a lower 0 to 62mph time than the XFR-S. It’s also not available in RHD.

Will it be faster round a track? Let’s wait and see.

Jaguar have produced a 600bhp XFR, which went 225mph on the Bonneville Flats. If they really wanted to play, I’ve got more horse power than you, then they could. Again, it’s not about playing Top Trumps.
