Last week, Porsche revealed a new range-topping Boxster – the Boxster GTS – together with a new Cayman GTS, and appealing, range-topping versions they are too.
Yes, many consider the Boxster the Porsche for the buyer who can’t afford a 911. But that’s very wide of the mark.
In fact, in many ways, the Boxster is the better car; it’s beautifully built, has as much performance – especially in the GTS – as you could want for 99 per cent of the time and it comes with the option of open-top motoring when the weather’s right.
And in GTS guise it offers even more; an extra 15bhp – now with 325bhp – PASM as standard, electronic dampers, lower suspension and some tasteful cosmetic titivation including new bumpers, 20″ Carrera S alloys and a nice set of sports seats with leather and Alcantara.
True, it’s not particularly cheap at nearly £53k – and more like £60k when you’ve finished playing with Porsche’s enticing options – but that’s £20k less than the entry-level 911 Carrera
It’s a convincing Porsche and, certainly in this video, sounds great too (and it’d sound even better if Porsche dumped the ‘urgent’ background music).
