New Porsche Cayenne: Porsche’s 2018 Cayenne is OFFICIALLY official

The 2018 Porsche Cayenne has been officially revealed in Stuttgart, complete with evolutionary design, new cabin and lots of technology.

A few days ago we revealed the 2018 Porsche Cayenne – but now Porsche has done it officially.

Just as you’d expect from Porsche, the Cayenne looks just like the Cayenne – no revolutionary design here – but under the skin it’s all new and promises to be the sportiest of big SUVs there is.

Sitting on a new lighter platform – with the promise for more dynamism that holds – thanks also to aluminium body structure, 48v electrics, new technology and a new interior the new Cayenne may look familiar but it’s all very new.

Engine choices at launch will just be a pair of petrol V6 engines mated to a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive offering On-Road, Mud, Gravel and Sand and Rocks driving modes.

The entry-level Cayenne gets 335bhp and 332lb/ft of torque from the 3.0 litre V6 borrowed from the Panamera and is good for 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds, and the Cayenne S comes with a 2.9 litre Turbo V6 with 434bhp and 405lb/ft of torque and a 0-62mph of 5.2 seconds.

But not far behind will be a couple of hybrids also coming from the Panamera, with the 455bhp Cayenne E-Hybrid and the 666bhp Cayenne Turbo S Hybrid.

Unsurprisingly, considering the problems Porsche are having with diesel engines, no diesel Cayennes are promised – but they will happen.

Now sitting on the MLB Platform – just like the Bentley Bentayga nd new Audi Q7 – the new Cayenne is slightly longer and wider than the outgoing model, and it’s a bit lower too making the Cayenne look more dynamic.

But the big updates come to the interior, with much of the new Cayenne’s interior very familiar if you’ve ever sat in a new Panamera.

A new dashboard gets both analogue and digital instruments as well as the touch sensitive controls on the centre console and the big 12.3″ touchscreen from the Panamera.

The dynamism promised by the new platform and lower weight is aided by the new double wishbones and multi-link suspension, with the Porsche 4D chassis control, and PASM on the Cayenne S, as well as the optional Chrono Package and improved PDCC.

The new Porsche Cayenne will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month and arrive in the UK in spring 2018.
