New Toyota Supra FINALLY arrives
The new 2019 Toyota GR Supra has finally been revealed at the Detroit Motor Show as a two-seat Supra Coupe with a 335bhp petrol engine and eight-speed auto ‘box.
The new Toyota GR Supra may be able to lay claim to the longest ‘coming’ in car history, but now it’s here as Toyota’s coupe takes on a chunk of underpinnings shared with the BMW Z4.The new GR Supra is Gazoo Racing’s first global model and comes with the BMW 3.0 litre straight-six turbo good for 335bhp and 369lb/ft of torque and, say Toyota, is quicker to 62mph at 4.3 seconds than the Z4 thanks to some shorter ratios and a bit less weight.
Toyota say the new Supra has ‘Condensed Extreme’ design – which we assume means long nose, stubby tail – but with modern additions like LED lighting, but with a modern interior based on the Z4 but with different instruments, nice to haves like an active diff, more rigidity than an LFA and the ability to tweak everything from the throttle response to the damping and steering.
For the UK, Toyota are delivering the standard Supra plus a Supra Pro which adds stuff like adaptive cruise, climate, better infotainment and electric seats.
But it doesn’t stop there as there’s a couple of dozen A90 Edition Supras for the UK too, which take the Supra Pro spec and throw in Storm Grey Matt paint and red leather.
Price start at £52,695 for the regular GR Supra, £54,000 for the Pro version and £56,945 for the A90 Edition.
