New Toyota Supra Detroit Motor Show debut confirmed
The new Toyota Supra is finally going to debut – at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2019 – and should arrive in showrooms by mid-2019.
It’s 16 years since the Toyota Supra bit the dust to the dismay of fans, and for at least the last few years a new Supra has been ‘on the way’.We’ve seen the BMW half of the joint project (BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra) already debut, and we’ve had what seem like endless teases, prototypes and Supra news – especially in the last year – to make the official arrival almost an anti-climax. But, finally, it’s happening – the new Toyota Supra will debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January.
Aimed at cars like the Porsche 718 Cayman, the new Supra is expected to cost in the region of £50k, will come with a 3.0 litre BMW six-pot with over 300bhp as well as a 2.0 litre BMW four-pot option, and promises to be a pretty uncompromising sports car, with big levels of rigidity, a very short wheelbase and decent firepower.
Toyota’s endless run-up to the actual launch of the new Supra has been so long, and so revealing, it’s hard to see what could actually surprise when the actual Supra – the proper, production model – finally arrives in January.
We’ll see.
