New Volkswagen E-Golf goes on sale in the UK at £32,190
The updated electric Volkswagen E-Golf goes on sale in the UK from £32,190, but the improved E-Golf could be had for as little as £22,190 with discounts.
The electric Volkswagen E-Golf may have its appeal if you spend a lot of time running around locally and want a decent hatch which is as cheap as chips to run.But with a headline price for the E-Golf which is pretty much the same as the Golf R, the purchase price actually makes it an expensive option.
But there is the taxpayer bribe of £4,500 to come off that to persuade buyers to bite the bullet with an EV, and now there’s the potential for an even bigger discount thanks to VW’s emissions scrappage scheme.
The scrappage deal offers you an extra £5,500 off the E-Golf is you’ve got a pre-2010 diesel car to chop in, which makes the price of the update E-Golf a far more reasonable £22,190.
True, the number of potential buyers currently running an eight-year old (or older) diesel car who actually want to lump out a chunk of money on a brand new electric E-Golf can probably be counted on one person’s fingers and toes – but it can be done.
What you’ll get is an E-Golf with a 50 per cent greater range than the last E-Golf – 186 miles (124 miles in the real world) – thanks to a battery pack which grows from 24.2kWh to 35.8kWh, which is rechargeable to 80 per cent in 45 minutes from a fast charger (but 5h 20m from a wallbox).
If you can live with that, the E-Golf comes pretty well equipped with Active Info Display, VW’s Car-Net Smartphone App, Discover Navigation Pro, LED lights and Front Assist.
The updated Volkswagen E-Golf is now on sale at VW’s e-Retailers.
