Volvo are planning to introduce new coupe and convertible models based on their new Scalable Product Architecture, but not until the current range has been renewed.

Cars like the Volvo Concept Coupe (pictured) are still a few years off
The first look the world had at the sort of cars that Volvo could build off its new Scalable Product Architecture underpinnings was the glorious Volvo Concept Coupe.
But it turns out that Volvo’s reasons for delivering the Coupe Concept were not to preview a new model (at least not an imminent new model) but to use it as a balance to the new Volvo XC90, demonstrating that the new Scalable Product Architecture is capable of a wide range of applications.
But the arrival of a sexy Volvo coupes and convertibles is going to have to wait a while as Volvo is intent on replacing its current range of larger models – S60, V60, XC60, V70 and XC70 – before it looks at the sexy side of car production. But it is in the mix.
Volvo’s Peter Mertens, talking to Motoring.au, said:
We have to focus on what is absolutely essential right now, it’s the renewal of our existing products and then once that is done we are going to think about beautiful and sporty cars. We think about coupes and convertibles once we’ve finished this line-up.
And with a design starting point of the Concept Coupe and the new range of Drive-E engines – including high performance hybrids and a 444 bhp triple turbo – we reckon the sooner Volvo start making sexy cars a priority, the better.
