The new Volvo V60 Cross Country arrives to complete the new 60 Series range, offering Volvo’s usual mix of increased ride height and more robust looks.
Volvo finally managed to complete the new V60 range with R-Design trim earlier this week, and now it completes the new 60 Series model range, or at least its body styles, with the arrival of this – the new Volvo V60 Cross Country.Think of the V60 Cross Country as a V60 estate with its green Hunters on to cope with muddy fields and rotten roads and you won’t go far wrong. And, for most owners, it will do exactly what the XC60 will do, but without quite the mass and statement an SUV brings with it.
The V60 Cross Country sits 75mm higher than the V60 Estate – enough for pitted tracks, muddy fields and and a more commanding driving position – and gets its suspension tweaked to suit, as well as Hill Descent, ESC, Corner Traction Control and an Off-Road mode for more control.
In the mix are the usual extra bits of cladding on the sills and wheel arches to add a bit of butch, and skid plates to look the part and offer a bit of protection, with four-wheel drive as standard. And, we’re assuming, no model designations – Momentum, Inscription or R-Design – as the Volvo Cross Country models come with just a single ‘Cross Country’ spec. Although you can probably expect a V60 Cross Country Pro spec to be offered too.
For now, Volvo are being very parsimonious with the engine options for the Cross Country, with the only one available straight away the D4 diesel offering 188bhp, although they do say Mild Hybrid and Twin Engine options are on the way. But with the V90 Cross Country offering a D5 diesel and T5 and T6 petrols too, it seems likely the V60’s engine options will extend further.
No prices for the Volvo V60 Cross Country yet, but expect the D4 to start at close to £40k.
