Volvo is recalling the new XC90 to fix a problem with an electronic wiring harness that controls parts of the restraint systems. Just 200 XC90s are involved.
The new Volvo XC90 is just, and only just, starting to arrive with real owners, but Volvo is having to recall those that have made their way out in to the big wide world to fix a safety issue. It seems Volvo has a problem with an electronic wiring harness which controls parts of the Volvo’s many restraints systems.
A wiring harness in the fronts seats has been incorrectly assembled in some cars in a way that could lead to the insulation being damaged. If damage does occur, the driver should see a warning message telling them to go to their dealer, but Volvo want to fix the problem before that happens.
If the insulation does get damaged, and the warning light comes on, then the deployment of the airbags will be affected, but there is no risk of them inflating by mistake.
Volvo are writing to the 200 or so owners – mainly in Sweden, but some in the rest of Europe and the US – to get them to take their cars to their dealer. Volvo has also fixed the issue for cars now being produced.
Oh, the joys of being a car maker.
