Nissan Juke – revealed UPDATE: +video

The Nissan Juke

Nissan has revealed the Juke Crossover ahead of Geneva

Nissan has revealed details of the Nissan Juke Crossover ahead of Geneva. We have full details and photos of the Juke.

We told you about ‘The Final Countdown’ press release Nissan sent us for the Nissan Juke the other day so I hope you tied a knot in your hankie and bookmarked us so you didn’t miss out. We now have lift-off.

The Nissan Juke, all mickey taking aside, looks to be something of a winner. Individually styled – although toned down from the Qazana Concept – and offering some really innovative design features – not to mention a potent engine option – it could conquer the segment in the same way the Qashqai has.

The styling is a bit Marmite, but we do thinks it’s bold and contemporary. With a range of engines from the 1.5dci through to the turbo 1.6i with 190bhp, the Juke will offer a viable alternative to cars like the MINI and Audi’s new A1. Big challenges.

Designed in the UK, the Juke is based on the same platform as the Clio and Micra – although it’s wider and longer than the Micra. Suspension up front is McPherson Strut and Torsion beam at the back – but only if you go for a 2WD version. If you opt for 4WD you get multi-link suspension, which promises to set the Juke apart from the competition.

Lots of ‘Big’Car’ options are on offer, including rear-view camera, keyless start and auto lights. The dramatic exterior doesn’t really carry over to the interior – which is much more ‘Corporate’ Nissan – although the centre console does feature a bulbous painted lump which Nissan tell us has been inspired by the fuel tank from a motorbike. Why?

Not surprisingly, especially after the ‘Final Countdown’ build-up, Nissan has lots to say on the Juke. Check it all out in the Nissan Juke Press Release.

We have to say; this should shake the sector up quite a bit.

Robert, you must be bland of taste

You would pick the standard and in bleak colors, it is a beautifull design, I have been in one, infact, I am going to get mine tonight.
Some designs cater for diferent tastes, I agree that the marketing words are overblown and full of BS, but that is what marketing does.
Don’t worry, there will always be square grey cars for the likes of you.

Quite frankly, the Nissan Juke – both the car itself and all the overblown pre-launch marketing hullabaloo – makes me utterly despair. I despair that we live in times where something like this could even get sketched on a piece of paper, let alone be actually produced and rolled out; I despair that there can be anyone, anyone at all, who would ever fork out a fair old chunk of their hard-earned money for this thing; I despair for the future of car manufacturing and what those of us who love motoring are going to be stuck with in terms of choice if this ghastly monstrosity is the sort of thing we’ve all got to look forward to.

I mean LOOK AT IT!! What in the name of all that’s holy is THAT thing meant to be??! Urbanproof energized… oh please! What kind of gibberish is that? One can picture the scene in the marketing department: “Hey, let’s just bang a couple of buzzwords together and that should be enough to blind people to the fact that we’ve created something truly appalling and, if we’re honest, pretty pointless”.

Crossover… what on Earth’s all that about, anyway? Who actually NEEDS a crossover type of car if they actually stop to think about it? Last time I looked, there weren’t an awful lot of muddy fields and craggy rocks to drive through in suburbia, so why does anyone actually need all the 4×4 guff?

I suppose what I despair of most is simply this: think back to the days of William Lyons and Colin Chapman and their kind and the beautiful creations they conceived. Lyons put the finishing touches to some of the most beautiful cars ever designed by watching how the light of the late evening sun caught the curves of the car… You can’t exactly see the Juke’s designers – with the ever-present bean-counters looking on – bringing that kind of passion and love to this dreadful thing, can you?

£12.5k and above?! I rather think not. For the love of God save your money and go buy a proper car! Something nice that isn’t going to make you throw up your lunch every time you look out of your window and see it on the driveway. Go buy a low-mileage Citroen C6 or something beautiful yet family-friendly like that. There’s still plenty of better choices – I only hope and pray that that stays the case.

    Urbanproof energized… Yeah. Right.

    How much will it cost?
    Does it come in black?
    When will it be available?

We expect it to cost from around £12.5k. There’s bound to be a black option and sales are scheduled to start by September. As soon as we have anything more we’ll let you know.
