Nissan are taking the 2010 Micra – the Nissan Global Compact Car – to the Geneva Motor Show. But will it be called the Nissan Micra?
Back in October, we reported on Nissan’s Global Compact car which is the replacement for the current Micra, which has been built in Sunderland. And then last month we learnt from Nissan that the 2010 Nissan Micra would spawn a saloon and a mini mpv. But we still hadn’t seen anything other than the sketch above.
So we’d rather expected that when Nissan announced officially that the 2010 Micra would be going to the Geneva Motor Show next month we’d at least get a photo, even if it was just a teaser photo. But we haven’t. More confusingly, Nissan are still referring to the car as the ‘Global Compact Car’. Which does make us wonder if they’re going to drop the Micra name and come up with something new.
Which is entirely possible. As the idea as of a saloon and mini-MPV to add to the range – and doubtless a convertible too – means a much more global approach to marketing by Nissan with the new Micra, perhaps it is time for a name change. The fact that Nissan are going to make the new Micra in India (in Chennai – Madras as was) with a big focus on emerging markets for their pocket-sized car perhaps also makes a change of name more likely too.
Perhaps to acknowledge the building of the new Micra in India they could produce a hot version and call it the Nissan Madras?
Just a thought.
