The Peugeot 3008 SUV has won the Irish Car of the Year Award in Dublin, with wins too for Alfa Romeo, Kia, Nissan, Toyota and more.
As we revealed the 2017 Scottish Car of the Year earlier this week, we thought we should be even-handed and reveal the Irish Car of the Year (ICOTY) too – and it’s the Peugeot 3008 SUV.
Oddly, the ICOTY is deemed to be the ‘2018’ Car of the Year, from a list of more than 60 new cars and models introduced in to the Irish market this year, rather than the 2017 ICOTY.
But even if the award year seems a bit of an oddity, the winner certainly isn’t; the new Peugeot 3008 is pretty much the best in class and deserves the win.
Other winners include a double win for the Alfa Romeo Giulia as Best Medium Car and (the Quadrifoglio) as best Sport / Performance car, Kia Picanto as Best City Car, Toyota Prius PHEV as the Irish Green Car of the year.
The ICOTY also added an extra ward this year for Innovation, and it went to the Honda Civic for its Sensing Suite of safety stuff.
The Irish Car of the Year Award is decided by a panel of 30 Irish Motoring writers and designed to cut through the bewildering array of new cars on the market, and to guide the public in the right direction.
They say, diplomatically, that the Peugeot 3008 won by a tight margin. But it was a good decision.
