SEAT Leon Cupra 280: Fans enjoy a simulator drive – or did they? (video)

SEAT invited a couple of Cupra fans to enjoy an extreme simulator experience of 276bhp SEAT Leon Cupra 280. But all was not as it seemed.

In January the SEAT Leon Cupra and Cupra 280 were revealed as SEAT’s take on the VW Golf GTI, but with things taken to another level.

That meant the SC getting 261bhp and the 5-door Cupra 280 a very appealing 276bhp, enough to get the 280 to 62mph (when fitted with the DSG ‘box) in 5.7 seconds – appealingly lively.

Not surprisingly, there were plenty of SEAT fans wanting to get up close and personal with the Leon Cupra 280, so SEAT invited a lucky pair to get suitably suited and led them in to an extreme simulator for the virtual drive of their life.

But this was no simulator. In fact, as soon as the chaps had been safely bolted in the back, the simulator opened and all was clear – the pair had been strapped in the back of a modified Cupra made to look like a simulator, and they were off for a real drive in the hands of a competent SEAT driver.

We’re not completely convinced the hapless pair really had no idea they weren’t in a simulator, but it still makes for a decent video showing how lively the Leon Cupra 280 is, and for not a lot more money than the Golf GTI.
