SEAT Tarraco SUV arrives
The SEAT Tarraco is revealed ahead of a debut at the Paris Motor Show, yet another VW Group SUV to add to SEAT’s current SUV range.
You might wonder if the VW Group will ever think it has enough SUV options to go around, but that time isn’t here yet so we’re getting yet another – the SEAT Tarraco. This is the SUV SEAT asked the public to name (ideas for new SUV names are obviously drying up), and it arrives as SEAT’s take on cars like the VW Kodiaq, designed to deliver a spot of Spanish sportiness in to the family SUV including, it’s expected, a Tarraco FR with over 200bhp.
The Tarraco joins a crowded market place, not least from within the VW family, but SEAT want the Tarraco to be the ‘sporty’ option, joining the Ateca and Arona to get SEAT properly profitable.
At 4735mm long and 1839mm wide it’s not a small SUV, and in the UK it will come only as a seven-seat model, good for 700 litres of boot space and 2000 with the seats down.
Styling is modern SEAT SUV, with a grille you won’t miss, big crease line down the side and round the tailgate, big alloys and LED lights.
Inside there’s a new dashboard design with a tablet style infotainment screen ‘placed’ on the dash and 10.25″ digital instrument panel.
Engine options at launch are a 1.5 litre petrol with 148bhp and six-speed manual, 187bhp 2.0 litre petrol with 187bhp, 4WD and seven-speed DSG, as well as a pair of diesels with 148bhp or 187bhp and the same gearbox/drivetrain options as the petrols. There will also be a PHEV Tarraco and a Tarraco FR at some point in the future.
The SEAT Tarraco isn’t being built in Spain but in Wolfsburg with the Tiguan, with order books opeing in the UK in December.
