The SEAT Ateca (pictured) is getting a new big brother – and you can choose its name
The next SUV from SEAT will be the Spanish firm’s take on the Skoda Kodiaq, and its name is being chosen from a shortlist of nine Spanish place names.
SEAT has discovered, as many car makers have, that the route to profit is to build what buyers want. And buyers want SUVs, of all sizes and all prices. So far, SEAT is making its mark with the new Ateca SUV – a SEAT aimed at the Nissan Qashqai – and on its way is the SEAT Arona, a smaller take on the Ateca, which should boost SEAT’s sales still further.
But having rolled out the Ateca to some acclaim, and followed it up with the smaller Arona, SEAT are now looking to go up in size from the Ateca with yet another SUV, this one based on the Skoda Kodiaq.
To get a bit of new SUV PR rolling along, SEAT decided to ask the world what it should call its new SUV, and had 130,000 responses from more than 100 countries.
The caveat was that it must be a Spanish place name (so the UK entries declaring SEAT-Y McSeatFace as the best name wouldn’t have made the list), and all the entries have been whittled down to just nine, with SEAT saying they’ve taken care to make sure none of the final options possess linguistic difficulties.
The nine possible names for the new SEAT SUV are:
- Abrera
- Alboran
- Aran
- Aranda
- Avila
- Donosti
- Tarifa
- Tarraco
- Teide
If you didn’t chip in your choice in the opening phase of this, you will be able to vote on SEAT’s website for one of the top three announced at the Frankfurt motor Show on 12 September, with SEAT revealing the final name in October.
For our money, as linguistically challenged Brits, the best choices are Abrera, Aran and Tarifa.
