Skoda Kodiaq SUV is the Tow Car of the Year
The new Skoda Koqiaq SUV has won the Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of the Year 2018 award, beating off Volvo, VW and more to take the win.
It’s a year since the new Skoda Kodiaq SV arrived to take on not just its Tiguan cousin, but cars like the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Kia Sorento too for the hearts and minds of family SUV buyers. And it’s making an impact. With seven seats, a decent choice of engines and great build quality, the Kodiaq is a good choice for ferrying your brood and stuff around. But it’s more than that – it’s a good tow car too.
In fact, so good a tow car is the Kodiaq that the Caravan and Motorhome Club have made it their towcar of the year for 2018, beating off competition from Volvo, VW, Ssangyong and Vauxhall in the process.
All the competitors had to undergo a series of challenges including towing performance at Millbrook Proving Ground, how good is it at coping with a caravanners needs, how easily can it be hitched up, and how does it drive and perform – both at high speeds and twisty roads.
The test take four days, and although the entrants are split over a number of categories, it was the Koadiaq SE L 2.0 TDI 4×4 DSG which took the overall gong, as well as the win in the £33-£38k category.
Other winners included the new Volvo XC60 D4 Inscription, XC90 T8 Twin Engine, VW Amarok 3.0 V6 TDI 4MOTION, VW Golf Estate Alltrack 2.0 TDI 4MOTION, Skoda Octavia Estate Scout 2.0 TDI 4×4, Vauxhall Insignia Grand SPort SRi, and Ssangyong Korando SE 4×4.
Which means that if your budget is more or less than the Skodaiq, and you have something to tow (which definitely doesn’t need to be a caravan – perhaps a track car or boat) you know which cars you’re best looking at.
