Subaru are teasing the 2011 Subaru WRX STI ahead of a reveal later this week at the New York Motor Show. So what do we know? It has a big wing.
It’s never terribly difficult to work out when we have a Motor Show looming – in this case the 2010 New York Motor Show which kicks off later this week – because every car maker starts to get clever and stick out teases for their latest creation. This time its Subaru with a tease for the STI pack on the WRX.
And really, the tease hides the detail but who really cares. It’s a Subaru WRX with a thumping great wing on it, so it’s not really going to take a genius to work out how it will look. Something that’s not exactly lost on Subaru, whose press release for this picture is one of the simplest we’ve seen. It simply said “The Wing is Back!”. Which says it all.
So now we know that the Subaru WRX STI gets a full-on WRC wing out back. What we don’t know, and won’t know until the end of the week, is whether there’s going to be a four door saloon version. It seems a possibility, but even if there is it almost certainly won’t come to the UK.
It may be playing a bit on past glories, but in this modern car world of played-down power and understated everything its nice to see a bit of brashness from Subaru. Which makes two this week after Ford’s nicely OTT Focus RS500 got outed yesterday.
The boy racer lives.
