Tesla Model 3 is now the BEST-SELLING EV in Europe

The Tesla Model 3 EV may only just be arriving in Europe – and only high-end models – but it’s already the best-selling electric car.

There has been much hype about the Tesla Model 3, but despite an endless array of production problems the Model 3 is now being produced in decent numbers, and it’s on sale in Europe.

The UK will have to wait a bit longer before RHD Model 3s are available, but even with no Model 3s sold in the Uk yet the Model 3 is now the best-selling electric car in Western Europe.

Figures for February – according to industry analyst Matthias Schmidt – show that Tesla sold more than 4,000 electric cars in Europe, and more than 3,700 of those were Model 3, and that’s despite the only Model 3s available at this time being high-end, expensive versions.

The big markets for the Model 3 were Germany (with 959 sales) and Norway (with 791), with the Model 3 accounting for almost a fifth of the EV market.

Coming in behind the Model 3 are the Hyundai and Kia EV Crossovers – the Kona Electric and e-Niro – with joint sales just a bit behind Tesla, with the Renault Zoe in third with nearly 3,000 sales and the Nissan LEAF – the default choice for so long – in fourth place with a bit more than 2,500.

It’ll be interesting to see if March figures show the Model 3 running away with EV sales, or whether Hyundai/Kia can manage to build enough EVs to satisfy demand. As for the LEAF, the new bigger battery version might help their sales too.
