Tesla Model 3 to arrive in the UK in RHD mid 2019
The Tesla Model 3 – Tesla’s mass-market electric car – will commence UK deliveries in mid-2019, confirms CEO Elon Musk.
Tesla buyers are a loyal bunch, happy to slap down deposits for a car not really knowing when they will get it. But Tesla is starting to churn the Model 3 out in impressive quantities now, and although it’s only really available in the US and Canada at the moment that will change next year.Asked by a follower on Twitter when the Model 3 would actually start deliveries in Australia – in RHD guise – Elon Musk declared it would happen mid-2019. A follow-up Tweet from a UK deposit holder asked when the RHD Model 3 would be arriving in the UK, to which Musk replied “Same”‘.
So. although Elon Musk has a bit of a reputation for being ‘optimistic’, the ever-increasing production of the Model 3 – and even an operating profit in the last quarter – does make it likely Musk isn’t going to be too wide of the mark.
What exactly UK buyers will have to pay for a Model 3 – and just what specifications will actually be available – remains to be seen, as does the price.
So far, Tesla has focused on more expensive versions of the model 3, but the entry-level $35k car is still promised, which, we assume, will probably translate in to at least £35k when it does arrive in the UK.
But it seems reasonable to expect a price of at least £50k for a Tesla Model 3 you’ll really want.
