Tesla’s Model 3 Performance Model BEATS the BMW M
Elon Musk has revealed that the performance version of the Model 3 will come with two electric motors, hit 60mph in 3.5 seconds and, says Musk, thrash a BMW M3.
Elon Musk loves a Tweet more than just about anyone, and he’s been busy this weekend bigging-up the yet to arrive performance take on the new Model 3, a car Tesla are struggling to get to customers anyway. But Musk is confident build numbers for the Mode, 3 will hot Tesla’s ambitious targets, so now he’s set to to deliver temptring promises about the range-topping Model 3 – set to cost close to $80k.
According to Musk, the two motor Model 3 will add $5k to the base price of the Model 3, deliver a range of 310 miles and hit 60mph in 4.5 seconds. But the big claims are left for the most powerful version of the Model 3.
That, says Musk, will have better handling than the BMW M3 and beat anything in its class on track thanks, in no small part, to delivering 60mph in just 3.5 seconds and yet will still offer official range of 310 miles thanks to one motor designed for power and the other for range.
They are big claims, and frankly we have no idea if they will pan out when the ‘P’ version of the Model 3 makes an appearance in the summer. But if they do, it will certainly give the burgeoning EV offerings of more established premium car makers pause for thought.
Although the idea it will best the M3 on track is one we can’t wait to see Musk attempt to prove.
