Tracker – the Tracker people – have revealed that the Top 3 stolen and recovered cars in 2010 were the same as in 2009 – X5, Range Rover & M3.
To be absolutely correct, we reckon this is a list of the top ten stolen cars that have been recovered. Especially as it’s Tracker – the ‘You have to have a Tracker or we won’t cover you’ people – who have sent us the most stolen cars in 2010 list.
Coming in at #1 – for the second year running – is the BMW X5 (you should perhaps have Tony Blackburn’s voice and the ‘Top Ten Countdown’ music playing in your head at this point), closely followed at #2 by the Range Rover.
Still at #3 – where it’s been since 2009 – is the BMW M3, but there’s a new entry at #4 – the Audi RS4.
Tracker are keen to point out that it’s not just high-value cars that they recover, which is a fair point. Although, as its high-performance cars that get forced to have a Tracker to get insurance cover, the majority of recovered cars are more expensive than the average.
That said, Tracker say that a Peugeot 406 and Ford Sierra worth just £1,000 were recovered by tracker in 2010. Despite the tracker fees probably being a third of their value every year. Still, they got their cars back.
The interesting remark for us is that 84% of stolen cars are stolen using the keys. Long gone are the days of a coat hanger and a slide hammer with the security systems on modern cars being so effective. It’s just a shame the owners don’t keep their keys safer.
But then, if they did, Tracker would be out of business.
