The GR HV Sports Concept (pictured) perhaps previews the Toyota GT86 GR
It looks like a more powerful Toyota GT86 is on the way – The GT86 GR – as Toyota in Spain post a tease video of a GT86 with a ‘passion for speed’.
The Toyota GT86 is a cracking little sports car, but Toyota has never seemed tempted to deliver it with more power than it’s had since its arrived. Which, in some ways, is good. It’s kept what Toyota promised to deliver as an ‘affordable’ sports car sane, and, a little like the MX-5, it’s meant Toyota’s sports car has had a clear identity and few pretensions.
But it’s finally starting to look like Toyota are intent on delivering a more performance focused GT86 after all, first with the arrival of the GR HV Sports Concept in Tokyo last year (pictured above) and now with a video tease from Toyota in Spain (below).
The video Toyota in Spain has published on Twitter shows a GT86 chucking up huge plumes of dust as it doughnuts for our viewing pleasure, with a strap line saying ‘It’s all about the passion for speed’ followed by ‘GT86 by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’. Which seems clear enough.
We’re assuming this is a heads-up for a run-out model of the current GT86, but it could equally be a heads-up for a new GT86. We’ll find out soon enough.
