The Lynk & Co range will grow with an 05 and 06 based on the Volvo XC60 and XC90 (02 model pictured)
The Volvo XC60 and XC90 SUVs will be the basis for two new models from Geely-owned Lynk & Co, becoming the Lynk & Co 05 and 06.
We still can’t work out what the arrival of Lynk & Co – Geely’s ‘It’s not a Volvo’ subscription take on Volvo’s CMA cars – will achieve when Lynk & Co cars arrive in the UK and Europe. Will Lynk and Co fall flat because it’s perceived as a ‘cheap’ Volvo, or will Volvo suffer because you can get a Lynk & Co for less?Whatever happens, Geely has big plans for Lynk & Co, and we already have the Lynk & Co o1 on sale in China as a take on the Volvo XC40, the Lynk & Co 02 recently revealed as a sort of XC40 Crossover, and there’s the o3 saloon and the 04 hatchback expected in the next year.
Already outselling Volvo in China, Lynk & Co clearly has ambitious plans, but it’s not going to stop with the current models we know about, and it seems plans are afoot to deliver a Lynk & Co 05 and Lynk and Co 06 in the next couple of years too.
According to JustAuto, the new Lynk & Co cars won’t be models based on Volvo’s CMA platform, but will be full-fat SPA cars – effectively a Lynk & Co take on the Volvo XC60 and XC90.
The first of these models – the Lynk & Co 05 – will arrive in 2020 and be as close to the XC60 as the Lynk & Co 01 is to the XC40 – the same under the skin but with different bodywork and interior. The Lynk and Co 06 will arrive in 2021, which is when the Volvo XC90 is due to be replaced, and seems likely to be based entirely on the new Volvo.
