Volvo XC60 is the 2018 UK Car of the Year
The new Volvo XC60 has been crowned the 2018 UK Car of the Year, narrowly beating the Skoda Kodiaq SUV and the BMW 5 Series to the title.
The new Volvo V60 Estate has been revealed this week as Volvo adds an Estate to the new 60 Series range, following the launch of the all new XC60 in 2017.
It made sense to release the new XC60 as the first of Volvo’s all-new 60 Series, not just because SUVs are flavour of the moment, but because the XC60 is the best-selling medium sized SUV in Europe.
Just as they had done with the new XC90, Volvo managed to deliver a new XC60 with all that appealed about the old XC60, but with new styling which was still very much XC60, but new, cool Volvo too.
It arrived with an interior very close to the stylish, understated XC90’s cabin, with clean lines, high quality materials and still with the very good Sensus portrait infotainment screen.
It all adds up to a very appealing SUV from Volvo, a bit more wieldy and compact than the equally as appealing XC90, and the perfect family SUV. And the judging panel for the UK Car of the Year Awards agree.
The new Volvo XC60 has been crowned UK Car of the Year for 2018, narrowly beating off competition from the Skoda Kodiaq (by just a point – it should have been more) and the BMW 5 series.
Jon Wakefield, Volvo Car UK MD, said:
Winning both the overall UK Car of the Year and Best Medium Crossover awards is a fantastic achievement for Volvo. The awards reflect the desirability and sophistication of the XC60 and the elegant Scandinavian design, cutting-edge technology and luxurious equipment levels have proved a big hit with customers.
It’s the first time Volvo has won the (relatively) new UK Car of the Year Award, one better than the runner-up gong the XC90 got in 2016. And it’s well-deserved.
