Ahead of the Wales Rally GB, sponsors Dayinsure have taken a rally-sped Ford Fiesta, attached it to a zip wire and sent it down Slate Mountain.
Every event needs a bit of promotion, and what better way than pulling off a stunt you don’t see every day?
That’s clearly what Dayinsure – sponsors of the Wales Rally GB – thought when they brainstormed how to get a bit of viral interest going for the rally in October. And they’ve come up with a cracking stunt.
They decided the best idea was to attach a rally-spec Ford Fiesta to a zip wire and send it down a mountain. As you would.
The stunt took place at the Llechwedd Slate Caverns visitor attraction, which just happens to be hosting two speed tests in this year’s rally.
High up in Snowdonia, the venue also just happens to be home to Zip World Titan, the biggest zip zone in Europe, so Dayinsure had the perfect way to promote itself, the Wales Rally, Slate Mountain and Zip World all in one go.
The start of the Fiesta sip wire video shows Matt Edwards, who’s currently leading the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship, donning gloves and helmet before the Fiesta takes off, although Edwards wasn’t in the car as it flew down the mountain.
Ben Taylor, Managing Director of Dayinsure Wales Rally GB, said:
To promote the thriving adventure sports destinations in north Wales which, of course, includes the World Championship rally, our original thoughts were to put some of the top drivers down the zip wire… but, together with those at Zip World and our title partners at Dayinsure, we all got a bit carried away.
Good stunt.
