Ferrari 430 Scuderia & 16M recalled

Ferrari has recalled all 430 Scuderias and 16Ms to rectify a tyre fault.

All the news on Ferrari of late has been on the 458 Italia. But the car the 458 replaces has a problem. Drive too fast and the tyres go down.

To be fair, this deosn’t apply to every F430 on the road – but apparently it does apply to every 430 Scuderia and its convertible sibling  (the Ferrari 16M) – that has been produced. That comes to a few over 3,000 cars worldwide.

So what’s the problem? It would seem that tyres – when used at high speed for prolonged periods – are in  danger of a sudden loss of pressure. This would seem to be caused by bits of rubber breaking off the tyres during prolonged high-speed – over 180mph – runs. In fairnes to Ferrari, there are probly but a handful of Scuderias that will ever travel at over 180mph for any length of time. But they’re taking no chances.

The tyres that are causing the problem are Pirelli P-Zero 285 / 35 ZR 19 with the lettering ‘XB’ on them. And Ferrari has contacted every owner to arrange a visit to the dealer for a free tyre swap.

What’s the betting all these owners will be out donutting the day before the free tyre swap, or at least setting the tyres alight in one way or another?
