The Mercedes EQC, Mercedes’ first electric SUV previewed by the EQ Concept, is spied on video testing in production guise ahead of a 2019 reveal.
Every car maker on the planet is heading down the Electric Car route, and although there’s scant evidence that mainstream buyers will buy in to EVs in a big way, car makers have no choice but to use electrification to reduce average CO2 levels across their range.
But there is one area where Electric Cars do have a clear market opportunity, and that’s at the ‘Premium’ end of the market, with Tesla – for all its faults – demonstrating premium buyers are prepared to pay for high-end electric cars.
That’s why we’ve got cars like the Jaguar i-Pace and Audi E-tron heading to market as Premium electric SUVs, and why Mercedes are playing the game too – although a bit further behind.
Mercedes electric SUV offering is the Mercedes EQ C – as previewed by the Generation EQ electric SUV concept we saw in Paris in 2016 – and it’s moving closer to production as it’s spied testing in (camouflaged) production guise.
The EQ C is expected to get a range of around 300 miles, with an electric motor on each axle delivering around 400bhp, and the EQ C gets a new platform designed specifically for electric vehicles.
Despite being out cold weather testing, the EQ C isn’t expected to be revealed until well in to 2019.
