Alpina has revealed the closest you’ll get to a 2012 BMW M5 Touring – the Alpina B5 BiTurbo Touring.
We haven’t even had the 2012 BMW M5 launch yet, never mind thinking about the Touring. Although it would seem that BMW has no intention of making a touring version of the 2012 M5. Not that BMW are exactly reliable when it comes to M-Car denials.
So this rather butch BMW Touring from Alpina is possibly the closest you’ll get to bagging an M5 Touring in the latest iteration. But that’s not the end of the world.
The Alpina B5 BiTurbo Touring comes equipped with the same V8 4.4 litre, twin-turbo lump and 8-speed ZF ‘box as the B5 saloon. Which is good enough to deliver 500bhp and 516lb/ft and scoots the Bavarian load-carrier to 62mph in 4.8 seconds and on to 187mph. Which, if memory serves us right, is the same to 60mph as the E60 M5 Touring.
As you would expect from Alpina, all this M5-esque performance comes wrapped up in a suitably steriod-injected body with Alpina protrusions adorning front, back and sides. But it’s not too ‘Halfords’. In fact it all looks rather fine.
There are endless expensive Alpina options. Like Alpina Lavalina II upholstery for £9k. And the base price isn’t exactly bargain basement in the first place at £76k.
But we still want one.
