Jaguar are to launch the facelift for the XF – the 2012 Jaguar XF – at the New York Motor Show, including the new 2.2 diesel XF.
We had expected that we would see the 2012 Jaguar XF at the Geneva Motor Show this month, but Jaguar instead chose to give us the Jaguar XKR-S for our delight and delectation. Not that we objected – despite it proving us wrong on the facelift XF.
But now our sources say we weren’t as far off as we perhaps might have expected, as Jaguar intend revealing the facelifted XF at the New York Motor Show at the end of April.
After the 2012 Jaguar XF failed to materialise at Geneva we did wonder if Jaguar might actually hang on until Frankfurt in September to reveal the new XF, especially as we expect the big news in addition to the facelift itself will be the reveal of the Jaguar XF 2.2 diesel, something we believe Adrian Hallmark recently confirmed. Probably.
The surprise is that Jaguar are choosing to unveil a mass-market XF with a more modest diesel lump at a Motor Show in a country that doesn’t ‘Get’ diesel engines. The 2.2 diesel in the XF is aimed at the BMW 5-Series fleet market in Europe and should turn the XF in to a proper volume model. Especially if Jaguar get their finger out and finally give us the Jaguar XF Estate as well.
Having said all this, Jaguar will probably now turn round and launch the new XF at Shanghai instead. Or hang on until Frankfurt in September as we’d originally expected.
We seem to be just slightly off kilter with Jaguar stuff of late.
